Dato Kobidze, in his words on the back label: “My family wine cellar and my 150 years old vineyard are located in the village of Erketi, in the western Georgian region of Guria. I make all my wines by hand in qvevri, large clay jars buried underneath the ground, in an ancient style. I work to preserve unique varieties from my beautiful Guria that almost went extinct during Soviet rule.”

About Dato's Wine

Dato Kobidze makes fascinating and expressive natural wines from his family vineyard in Erketi in the western region of Guria, bordering the Black Sea. His wines are precious: often made from rare grapes and produced in small quantities, celebrating indigenous Gurian varietals that nearly disappeared during the Soviet era. His wines are made traditionally in qvevri. We should all be drinking these wines. His latest addition is the Ancestors Chkhaveri which is a limited wine made from a single vine (that's right) that is at least 150 years old that used to be trellised up a tree as is traditional in this region.
